About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The position sits within a broad agricultural and life sciences research environment and connects the Department of Entomology with the National Center for Electron Beam Research at Texas A&M University.
The successful candidate will join a team working on a project that evaluates alternative radiation sources for the implementation of the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) to control screwworm flies. The role is highly collaborative, involving work with departmental researchers as well as colleagues at Texas A&M University and the USDA.
Day-to-day research responsibilities include designing, planning, conducting, and coordinating experiments; maintaining blow fly colonies; carrying out biological assays on eBeam-, X-ray-, and gamma-radiation-treated blow flies; analyzing data; and preparing results for scientific and clientele-oriented publications. The postdoc will also help prepare proposals and support research administration activities related to the project.
The appointment includes supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students and other technical or field staff involved in the research, along with assistance in basic lab management, insect care, and installation or operation of research equipment as needed. The position combines experimental entomology, applied radiation research, and collaborative lab-based work in a university setting.
Researchers named in the project include Dr. Keyan Zhu Salzman, Dr. Jeffery Tomberlin, and Dr. Suresh Pillai.
