About this position
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will join the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University to investigate the genetic basis of phenotypic variation in Drosophila. The project centers on how structural variants, repetitive DNA, and other forms of genetic variation shape gene regulation, genome function, and organismal traits.
The position offers the opportunity to lead independent research that can combine experimental and computational approaches. Depending on the successful candidate’s background and interests, the work may involve molecular biology, genetics, functional genomics, population genomics, pangenomics, genome engineering, computational biology, and bioinformatics. The lab emphasizes flexibility in balancing bench-based and data-driven research so the postdoctoral researcher can build on existing expertise while developing new skills.
The role includes generating and analyzing genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, and phenotypic datasets; developing reproducible analytical workflows; working with laboratory, computational, and high-performance computing resources; and contributing to manuscripts, presentations, and collaborative projects. The postdoctoral researcher will also help mentor graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and other laboratory personnel, while participating in lab meetings and maintaining shared resources.
This is a research-intensive appointment in a large biology department at Texas A&M University, where the surrounding environment supports work across molecular cell biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology.
