About this position
Washington University in St. Louis is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the Center for Implementation Research in Acute and Emergency Care (CIRCA), within the Department of Emergency Medicine. The position is based at the Washington University Medical Campus in St. Louis and offers an interdisciplinary research environment focused on improving infectious disease prevention, testing, diagnosis, linkage to care, treatment engagement, and health outcomes in emergency and acute care settings.
The postdoctoral researcher will work with CIRCA faculty, collaborators, research staff, clinical partners, and community, domestic, and international research partners. Potential areas include HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, and other conditions that may be addressed during an emergency department visit. The program also examines patient-, provider-, community-, and system-level factors that influence access to services, care-seeking behavior, patient and community engagement, and continuity across the care continuum.
Research activities may involve implementation science, hybrid effectiveness-implementation studies, pragmatic trials, clinical and observational research, qualitative and quantitative methods, mixed-methods investigation, and evaluation in clinical, community-based, and other real-world settings. Depending on the funded research portfolio and the researcher’s background, responsibilities may include interviews, focus groups, surveys, electronic health record data analysis, implementation-outcome evaluation, and investigation of mechanisms driving program effectiveness and implementation.
The researcher will contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, conference presentations, grant proposals, progress reports, and dissemination for scientific, clinical, public health, and community audiences. The role is designed to support increasing research independence, development of an emerging research agenda, collaborative scholarship, and preparation for a future NIH-funded investigator career under faculty mentorship.
