About this position

Queen Mary University of London is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr Ezra Aksoy’s research group at the William Harvey Research Institute. The project focuses on innate immunity and infection, with particular emphasis on how the Type VI Secretion System (T6SS) of Campylobacter jejuni drives bacterial competition, intestinal colonisation and host immune responses.

The research brings together molecular microbiology, infection biology, bacterial pathogenesis and mucosal immunology. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate interactions between C. jejuni, competing bacteria and the intestinal host, using advanced human and avian intestinal models. Experimental approaches include three-dimensional cultures and organ-on-chip technologies, providing opportunities to study infection and immune responses in physiologically relevant systems.

The project is based within the William Harvey Research Institute and includes collaboration with the Enterics Research Team at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. This collaborative environment connects microbiology, infection biology and host–pathogen interaction research across institutions.
