About this position

University of Sydney is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Camperdown Campus, Sydney, Australia.

This opportunity sits within an Australian Research Council (ARC)-funded project titled Geometric Methods to Detect Rate-Induced Tipping Events. The research focuses on applied mathematics, dynamical systems, scientific computing, numerical analysis, and mathematical ecology, with applications to ecological and complex biological systems.

The successful candidate will work with Professor Martin Wechselberger (University of Sydney) in collaboration with Dr. Theodore Vo (Monash University) and an international research network. The role involves research on multiple-timescale and non-autonomous dynamical systems, development of numerical algorithms, and investigation of geometric structures such as contact points, pseudo-singularities, and canard solutions.

Eligibility: PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Strong background in geometric singular perturbation theory, dynamical systems and canard theory, scientific programming, computational mathematics, continuation methods, and/or parametrisation methods is preferred. Experience with automatic differentiation is advantageous, and modelling of biological, ecological, or climate systems is desirable.

Funding and terms: Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Salary is AUD $117,936 per annum (Level A, Step 6) plus 17% superannuation.

Deadline: 26 July 2026, 11:59 PM AEST.

Applicants should use the University of Sydney Workday application portal and submit all required materials before the closing date.
