About this position
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in a translational tumor immunology laboratory within the Department of Surgery, Surgical Oncology. The project investigates how the host immune system contributes to pancreatic cancer development and metastatic progression.
The research will examine cancer-induced suppression of innate and adaptive anti-tumor responses, with particular emphasis on tumor-draining lymph nodes as drivers of local and systemic immune suppression. The program integrates human patient samples, mechanistic mouse models, single-cell and spatial profiling, primary cell culture, flow cytometry, and therapeutic development. A major long-term goal is to develop immune-reprogramming approaches that can produce effective anti-tumor responses and clinically feasible immunotherapies.
Applicants must hold a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, or a related field and have experience with mouse modeling, small animal surgery, primary cell culture, and flow cytometry. Experience in cancer biology, immunology, mouse modeling, and cell biology is preferred, while bioinformatics experience is viewed favorably. Candidates should demonstrate motivation, creativity, independence, efficient learning, and strong communication skills.
The appointment is full-time, 40 hours per week, with an estimated duration of 12 months and a hiring range of $63,480. Benefits include comprehensive medical and vision coverage, paid leave, and UNC postdoctoral professional-development services. The position is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. Applications are due November 10, 2026, and should include a CV, brief past-research description, and contact information for three references.
