About this position

The University of Liverpool is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Plasma Catalysis to join its School of Engineering and contribute to interdisciplinary research on sustainable chemical conversion.

The project focuses on adaptive plasma catalysis for converting CO2, CH4, and other feedstocks into valuable fuels and chemicals. The researcher will contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of plasma-catalytic reactors, alongside catalyst synthesis and characterisation.

The research will investigate plasma-catalyst interactions, catalyst dynamics, surface reaction pathways, and the underlying mechanisms governing plasma catalysis. Advanced in situ and operando characterisation techniques will support the study of catalyst behaviour and reaction processes.

The postdoctoral researcher will work with internal research team members and international collaborators. The role also includes contributing to research publications, conference presentations, and knowledge exchange activities within a dynamic and inclusive engineering environment.

Funding details

Full-time fixed-term employment for 12 months, with possible extension for a further 12 months. The salary is £39,906–£42,254 per annum; candidates awaiting PhD award will initially be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30, and will have their salary increased to Grade 7, spine point 31 after written confirmation of the PhD award.

What's required

Applicants should be enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with a relevant PhD or equivalent experience in a suitable engineering, chemistry, catalysis, plasma science, or related field. Candidates awaiting formal PhD award may be appointed at Grade 6 and will move to Grade 7 upon written confirmation of the award. Relevant experience in plasma-catalytic reactor design, catalyst synthesis and characterisation, plasma-catalyst interactions, reaction mechanisms, and advanced in situ or operando characterisation would be advantageous.
