About this position

Queen Mary University of London is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Psychology for a 36-month Leverhulme Trust-funded project, “Auditory Verbal Hallucinations: Pushing the Boundaries of Voice Perception.” The post is based in London within the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences and the Centre for Brain and Behaviour, with membership of the VoCoLab.

The successful researcher will investigate how people who experience auditory verbal hallucinations perceive external voices. The project will compare clinical voice hearers, non-clinical voice hearers, and typical listeners, examining processes such as person perception and how quickly and saliently listeners extract identity information from voices.

Responsibilities include designing and conducting behavioural and EEG experiments, recruiting and testing participants, analysing behavioural and EEG data, and preparing manuscripts. Experience with voice perception or hallucinations research, EEG data collection and analysis, advanced statistical methods such as representational similarity analysis, and special or clinical populations is advantageous.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in psychology, psychiatry, speech science, or a related discipline. The salary is £39,187–£42,933 per year, with benefits including pension access, 30 days’ annual leave pro rata, professional development opportunities, flexible working, and family-friendly policies. The closing date is 24 November 2026 at 23:55. Enquiries may be directed to Dr Nadine Lavan at [email protected].
