About this position
The Kelada Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate for a project on how the air pollutant ozone affects the lungs. The research will investigate why genetically different mice show different pulmonary responses to ozone exposure.
The project will connect DNA sequence variation, chromatin and other epigenomic states, and gene expression changes elicited by ozone in vivo. The team will examine how these molecular features relate to hallmark outcomes including airway inflammation and pulmonary injury.
Using the genetically diverse Collaborative Cross mouse genetics reference population, the postdoctoral researcher will help generate and analyze datasets focused on ozone-induced epigenomic and transcriptomic changes in alveolar macrophages. The work is designed to identify new biological pathways through which ozone exposure produces adverse pulmonary responses.
The researcher will gain experience with genomic analysis techniques, the Collaborative Cross mouse resource, and the molecular effects of ozone on the airway. The UNC pulmonary and toxicology research communities, together with a strong bioinformatics team, will provide opportunities for collaboration and training in transcriptomic analysis and related approaches. The role also includes contributing to scientific papers and presenting research at scientific meetings, supporting preparation for an independent research career in academia or industry.
