About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Chemistry, working with Prof. Alexander Forse on solid-state NMR and materials chemistry for the energy transition.

The project is part of an ERC Starting Grant funded by UKRI and focuses on understanding and improving supercapacitor devices for energy storage. The research uses solid-state NMR spectroscopy to gain structural insights into electrode materials and energy storage mechanisms in porous carbon materials. The Forse group’s broader research interests include developing new materials for climate change mitigation.

The successful candidate will carry out solid-state NMR experiments, help manage solid-state NMR equipment in the group, and support training of team members in NMR techniques. Access is provided to 400 and 600 MHz Bruker NMR spectrometers, potentiostats for electrochemistry, gas sorption instruments, and diffraction resources.

Eligibility: applicants must have or be about to obtain a PhD in solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Candidates should describe their relevant experience in the cover letter.

Funding and duration: the post is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance. No stipend amount is listed.

How to apply: apply online through the Cambridge recruitment portal, upload a CV, covering letter, and publications list, and quote reference MA50144. For application questions, contact Prof Alex Forse at [email protected].

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
