About this position
University of Oxford is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Mass Spectrometry within the Department of Biochemistry in Oxford, United Kingdom. The post sits in the Newstead group and the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience, working with Professor Simon Newstead and Dr Jo Parker.
The research focuses on the native mass spectrometry study of solute carrier (SLC) transporters, with broader links to structural biology, biophysical chemistry, analytical chemistry, proteomics, and lipidomics. The role involves leading a discrete MS programme within a larger effort to understand how SLC transporters are folded, modified, trafficked, and regulated in mammalian cells.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 12 months in the first instance. Salary is listed at £42,794 to £47,779 per annum.
Applicants should hold, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline and have substantial experience with native top-down mass spectrometry on high-resolution hybrid Orbitrap systems, including Thermo Fisher Orbitrap UHMR and Ascend platforms. Strong practical skills in sample preparation, advanced fragmentation, quantitative analysis of protein modifications and lipid interactions, and computational/data-analysis work are required, ideally with Python. Experience with SLC transporter research, glycoproteomics, open-source software development, and publication strength would be advantageous.
Applications must be submitted online using Vacancy ID 189364. Candidates should upload a CV and supporting statement, and provide details of two referees. The closing date is 9 November 2026 at 12.00 noon.
