About this position
The Soil Microbial Ecology Laboratory at Saint Louis University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to support ongoing work on soil microbiomes and soil function. The project combines field-based soil sampling with laboratory and computational analyses to understand microbial processes in soil systems.
The successful candidate will work on multi-omics research spanning metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics, with a strong emphasis on bioinformatics and data interpretation. The role includes quantifying microbial functional genes, developing AI-driven bioinformatics workflows, and analyzing high-throughput datasets to connect microbial activity with soil properties and ecosystem function.
In addition to computational work, the postdoc will contribute to experimental design and hands-on laboratory activities such as soil incubation, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, sequence library preparation, and measurement of soil properties including pH, moisture content, and inorganic nitrogen. The position also involves training undergraduate and graduate students, supporting lab protocols, and helping build the group’s research capacity.
The appointment is within Dr. Laibin Huang’s Microbial Ecology Lab at Saint Louis University, a research environment focused on generating preliminary data, establishing robust molecular methods, and producing publishable results from complex environmental datasets.
