About this position
The University of British Columbia's MacIsaac School of Nursing invites applications for three full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions within the Movember Institute Discovery Research Program. Based at the UBC Vancouver campus, the Fellows will join a Canadian research hub focused on developing the next generation of men's health researchers and strengthening research capacity in boys' and men's emotional and relational health.
Each Fellow will design, lead and deliver an independent five-year research program focused primarily on underserved boys and young men aged 12–35. Projects may address one or more of the program's themes: Coping and Consumption, Social Connection, and Early Fatherhood. The work may involve interdisciplinary research, partnerships with communities, health systems, policy and practice organizations, and translation of findings into services and policy.
Professor John Oliffe, the Movember Institute Professorial Fellow for Canada, will mentor the Postdoctoral Fellow. The Fellow will work with substantial independence while developing a structured research plan, collaborating with UBC faculty, trainees and staff, and contributing to the men's health research portfolio. The role also includes supporting the recruitment and development of a nested PhD Scholar and potentially mentoring junior trainees.
The three UBC Fellows will collaborate as part of an international cohort of 11 Discovery Fellows across Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Fellows will have access to senior mentorship, professional development, international collaboration, cohort activities and research convenings through the Movember Institute.
The fellowship combines behavioural and social sciences, public health, epidemiology, health services research and implementation science in a multidisciplinary environment addressing complex health and social challenges affecting boys and young men.
