About this position

RIKEN is recruiting Research Fellows or Special Research Fellows for the newly established Brain-Body Interaction Research Team at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Wako, Saitama, Japan.

The project focuses on brain-body interaction and neuroimmune interactions, especially how the brain controls peripheral organs and how social behavior influences subsequent pathogen infection. The lab aims to identify the neural circuits and mechanisms linking the nervous and immune systems, using mouse models and approaches from neuroscience, immunology, and molecular biology.

Relevant research keywords include neurophysiology, immunology, molecular biology, viral injection, and immunohistochemical staining. Experience with behavioral experiments, optogenetics, chemogenetics, in vivo/in vitro recording, stereotaxic surgery, and rodent tissue sectioning/staining is especially valued.

This is a postdoctoral-equivalent, fixed-term contract position. Applicants must hold a PhD in a related field such as neuroscience, biology, veterinary medicine, or medicine, and be able to work in an international environment where English is the main language of communication.

Salary starts at approximately 4 million yen per year, with additional allowances such as commuting and housing support, plus social insurance. The appointment is scheduled to begin on or after April 1, 2027 (negotiable).

Application deadline: October 1, 2027, or until a suitable candidate is found. Apply via the RIKEN recruitment page and follow the electronic application instructions for the resume and list of achievements.
