About this position

University of Aberdeen is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cardiometabolic Health (IMS324R) to join the laboratory of Professor Mirela Delibegovic in the Institute of Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition.

This is a postdoctoral opening within a 5-year multidisciplinary project funded by a British Heart Foundation programme grant. The project focuses on cardiometabolic sciences, including the role of macrophage PTP1B in cholesterol metabolism and cross-talk between myeloid cells and hepatocytes. The role is collaborative and involves working with partners at the University of Aberdeen, University of Liverpool, University of Leeds, University of Copenhagen, Leiden University, University of Dundee, and collaborators in Nantes.

Research interests and methods include immunology, cell signalling, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, flow cytometry, tissue culture, human-derived sample processing, and translational research aimed at improving patient outcomes. The post is especially suited to a motivated researcher interested in clinical and preclinical cardiometabolic disease models.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have or be about to obtain a PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related area. Experience with clinical samples, blood/patient samples, data analysis, statistical tests, academic writing, and dissemination is highly desirable. Flexibility is important because some work will take place in collaborators’ laboratories and may involve timing constraints for sample processing and cell sorting.

Funding and salary: the position is funded by the British Heart Foundation programme grant and is a full-time, limited-duration research post. Salary is Grade 6, £38,784 to £41,064 per annum pro rata.

Application window: closing date is 28 May 2026. Applicants should apply online via the University of Aberdeen jobs portal and consult the full advert for detailed requirements and application steps.

Contact: informal enquiries may be sent to Professor Mirela Delibegovic at [email protected]. HR enquiries can be directed to [email protected].
