About this position
The Ellison Institute of Technology’s Generative Biology Institute (GBI) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Tian Lab in Oxford, United Kingdom. GBI is led by Founding Director Jason Chin and focuses on making biology engineerable by developing the ability to write biological information and predict which DNA sequences will produce desired biological functions.
Led by Principal Investigator Rongzhen Tian, the Tian Lab uses an orthogonal replication system to accelerate the evolution of complex biological functions. The research aims to advance fundamental understanding of molecular and cellular evolution, develop biomolecules addressing challenges in human health and industry, and generate large-scale enzyme datasets for next-generation protein design models.
The postdoctoral researcher will design, execute and troubleshoot experiments, develop and adapt methods, and analyse complex datasets using computational and statistical tools. The role also involves contributing to research strategy, preparing scientific papers and protocols, presenting findings, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, building laboratory infrastructure and technologies, and mentoring junior researchers including PhD students and research assistants.
The researcher will work within a newly established institute occupying bespoke space in the Oxford Science Park, with plans for a larger purpose-built research facility. The GBI environment brings together scientists, technologists, engineers, researchers and innovators working across generative biology, health, sustainable agriculture, climate and artificial intelligence.
