About this position
University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC, Canada) is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Kalra Lab / Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in collaboration with the Applied Research Center at Langara College. This opportunity is centered on lipid-based delivery systems, transdermal and dermal drug delivery, skin permeation, and 3D skin models.
The project involves the design, formulation, and evaluation of advanced lipidic nanocarriers such as liposomes and LNPs, with emphasis on transport across biological barriers and predictive evaluation using synthetic membranes, biomimetic permeation systems, Franz diffusion cells, PAMPA, and bioengineered reconstructed human epidermis or full-thickness human skin equivalent models.
Research responsibilities include formulation optimization and scale-up, characterization using DLS, zeta potential, cryo-TEM, and HPLC, permeation and release kinetics studies, and data translation between synthetic and biological models. The successful candidate will also prepare manuscripts, present at conferences, and mentor students.
This is a fully funded postdoctoral appointment with an expected salary of 60,000 CAD per year, plus benefits. The initial term is 1 year and is renewable based on funding and performance. The position is based in Vancouver, Canada.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. completed within the last 2 years in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Required experience includes lipid-based formulation work, in vitro permeation testing, release kinetics modeling, mammalian cell culture, and especially 3D skin equivalent/model development for pharmacological testing. Strong communication skills in English and a record of first-author publications are expected.
To apply, submit one PDF containing a cover letter, current CV with publications, and contact information for three professional references, including the Ph.D. supervisor. Applications are accepted until November 15, 2026.
