About this position

The Department of Biological Sciences at Clemson University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a full-time, 12-month appointment starting January 15, 2027.

The position is based in the CapituLab, which studies the molecular mechanisms underlying evolution and development in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The research program spans plant molecular biology, developmental biology, genomics, genetics, microscopy, comparative anatomy/morphology, and tool development for the plant functional genetics community.

The fellow will carry out developmental and single-nuclei transcriptomic analyses, develop and implement high-throughput transcription factor mapping methods, and use CRISPR-based gene editing to characterize genes of interest. The role also includes mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers in the lab.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field and have a documented record of excellence in molecular research. Strong experience in advanced plant molecular and developmental biology techniques is preferred, along with computational analysis skills and basic programming knowledge (e.g., command line, R, Python). Experience with plant single-nuclei transcriptomics is especially desirable.

Applications should be submitted via Interfolio by October 1, 2026 for full consideration; review will continue until the position is filled. Required materials include a CV, letter of application, and contact information for two references. Questions may be directed to Daniel Jones at [email protected].
