About this position
Postdoctoral Research Position in Quantum Imaging and Metrology, University of Warsaw
The MAB QLAB Centre at the University of Warsaw is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher (young doctor / research employment group) for Group 3: Quantum Imaging and Metrology. The position is part of the Center for Hybrid Quantum-Classical Information Technologies (QLAB), established at the University of Warsaw in partnership with Sorbonne Université and funded through the International Research Agendas (MAB) scheme under the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021-2027 Programme (FENG).
The successful candidate will join a research team developing multimodal photonic platforms that aim to surpass classical limits in imaging, microscopy, detection, and metrology. The work is strongly experimental and focuses on optical systems, super-resolution imaging, quantum microscopy, experimental quantum optics, photon correlation measurements, and related computational methods. The role includes designing and characterising experimental setups, analysing laboratory data, contributing to research publications and conference presentations, and supporting open-science outputs such as dataset and code releases.
The appointment is a full-time research contract for 24 months, with the possibility of extension within the project eligibility period. The gross monthly salary is 12,500–13,500 PLN, and a start-up package is available for travel, conferences, and computational resources. The position has no teaching obligations and is based at the MAB QLAB Centre in Warsaw, Poland.
Eligibility is targeted at candidates with a PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline, together with up to five years of postdoctoral research and development experience. Applicants should bring experience in one or more of the following areas: super-resolution microscopy or advanced optical imaging, propagation of light in scattering media, construction or characterisation of optical/imaging systems, or experimental quantum optics with correlation measurements. Practical laboratory experience, familiarity with single-photon detectors such as SPADs, a strong publication record, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent English are all important. International research experience is viewed positively.
Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] with the subject line “QLAB YOUNG POSTDOC G3/02 - <surname>”. Required documents include the signed data-processing clause, signed candidate declaration, doctoral diploma or proof of the award date, CV with research output and three referees, cover letter describing motivation and research vision, up to three representative publications, and a statement confirming that the candidate meets the young doctor condition. The deadline is 18 November 2026 at 23:59 (Warsaw time).

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. Up to 5 years of research and development experience is required, counted from the year the doctoral degree was awarded. Candidates should have research experience in at least one of the following: super-resolution microscopy or advanced optical imaging, light propagation in scattering media, design/construction/characterization of optical and imaging systems, or experimental quantum optics with photon or light correlation measurements. Practical laboratory experience in independently conducting optical experiments, operating research equipment, and analysing experimental data is required, along with experience using light detectors such as SPADs or the ability and willingness to quickly acquire that expertise. A documented scientific track record with publications and conference presentations is expected, as is the ability to independently plan and conduct research, solve problems, critically analyse results, and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team. Strong motivation for experimental research is required. Very good spoken and written English at B2 level or higher is required. International research experience is considered an advantage. The candidate must not hold another full-time employment contract during the appointment and the total professional workload must not exceed 276 hours per month; if hired, the University of Warsaw must be the primary place of work and affiliation.
