About this position
Postdoctoral position in Quantum Infrastructure and Photonic Information Processing at the University of Warsaw
The MAB QLAB Centre at the University of Warsaw is recruiting 2 postdoctoral researchers (young doctor, research employment group) for Group 2: Quantum Infrastructure and Photonic Information Processing. The centre is a joint undertaking with Sorbonne Université and is funded under the International Research Agendas (MAB) within the European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021–2027 (FENG) programme, with the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) as the funding intermediary.
The project develops scalable hybrid quantum-classical technologies across four research pillars: quantum-secure communication, quantum infrastructure and photonic information processing, quantum imaging and metrology, and quantum computation and artificial intelligence. Group 2 focuses on new quantum light sources, high-performance detection technologies, programmable photonic systems, and interfaces that ensure system interoperability. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the scientific supervision of Dr Michał Karpiński, DSc., within a highly collaborative environment at the MAB QLAB Centre in Warsaw, Poland.
This is a full-time research position with no teaching obligations. The contract is for up to 36 months, within the project period ending 31 December 2029, with the possibility of extension depending on project eligibility and individual agreement. The gross salary is PLN 12,500–13,500, and the role includes a start-up package covering travel, conferences, and computational resources. Mobility opportunities with QLAB partners are also mentioned.
The research profile is in natural sciences, especially physics, quantum mechanics, quantum technology, and optics, with elements of computer and information sciences. Applicants should hold a PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline, and should have up to 5 years of research and development experience calculated from the year the doctorate was awarded. A strong background in quantum optics, quantum information, or photonics is essential. The ideal candidate is an experimentalist with a solid theoretical foundation, though exceptional theorists with a strong understanding of experimental platforms are also encouraged. Particular strengths in non-linear optics, temporal quantum state engineering, solid-state quantum light sources, cryogenic systems, or integrated photonics characterisation/testing are considered highly desirable.
Applicants must be able to work independently in the laboratory, collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and communicate fluently in English at B2 level or above. During the employment period, the successful candidate must not hold another full-time contract, and the total workload cannot exceed 276 hours per month. The University of Warsaw must be the primary place of work and affiliation.
To apply, candidates should email their materials to [email protected] with the subject line "QLAB YOUNG POSTDOC G2/02 - <surname>". Required documents include signed data-processing and candidate declarations, proof of doctoral degree date, a CV listing research output and achievements, a cover letter describing motivation and research vision, up to three representative publications, and a statement confirming eligibility as a young doctor. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and results are expected within 30 days after the deadline.
The deadline for applications is 18 November 2026 at 23:59 (Warsaw time). This opportunity is based at the University of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland.
