About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity in neurobiology of dementias at the Institut de Recerca de l'Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona, Spain.
The Neurobiology of Dementias Research Group is a multidisciplinary team embedded in the Memory Unit of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. The advertised postdoctoral stay is aimed at candidates interested in applying for the Juan de la Cierva 2026 fellowship or similar postdoctoral funding calls, with a research focus on translational studies in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative dementias.
The selected researcher will join a project that combines post-mortem human brain tissue, animal models, and cellular models to investigate disease mechanisms and identify novel therapeutic targets. The work spans molecular and cellular biology, imaging, and neuropathological approaches, making this a strong opportunity for researchers interested in translational neuroscience and dementia research.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field. The call also requires that the PhD was awarded within the specified date window for Juan de la Cierva 2026 eligibility (with a separate window for applicants using the disability access scheme). Candidates should demonstrate strong research experience, the ability to work independently and in teams, advanced English, and at least one first-author scientific publication.
Preferred experience: molecular and cellular biology, cell culture, Western blot and protein analysis, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, image analysis, statistical analysis with GraphPad Prism or R, murine models, and human brain tissue or neuropathological techniques. Prior work in Alzheimer’s disease or other neurodegenerative disorders is especially valuable.
Application: submit a cover letter, an updated CV, and the consent for personal data processing in PDF format by email to [email protected], indicating reference 2026/144. The deadline is 4 November 2026 at 15:00 (Europe/Madrid).

The PhD must have been awarded between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026, or between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2026 for applicants under the disability access scheme (33% disability or higher), subject to the call rules on research interruptions. Applicants should have a strong scientific background, proven research experience, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, advanced written and spoken English, and at least one first-author scientific publication. Experience with molecular and cellular biology, cell culture and neurodegenerative disease models, Western blot and protein analysis, immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy and image analysis, statistical software such as GraphPad Prism or R, murine models, and human brain tissue/neuropathological techniques will be valued; prior experience in Alzheimer's disease or other neurodegenerative disorders is an asset.
