About this position
Inria is advertising a postdoctoral research visit in graybox tunneling for multi-objective combinatorial optimization, with a strong emphasis on algorithm design, parallel computing, and high-performance computing (HPC). The project focuses on extending tunneling principles to the multi-objective setting, exploring Pareto local optima, and developing scalable methods for problems such as NK-landscapes, SAT, and TSP.
The researcher will work on designing new tunneling algorithms, hybrid island-based optimization strategies, and parallel search methods that exploit solution-level, iteration-level, and algorithm-level parallelism. A major part of the role is implementation and empirical evaluation on modern HPC platforms, including multi-core and multi-CPU systems, with possible exploration of many-core architectures.
This opportunity is based at Inria in France. It is a temporary, full-time postdoctoral position with a monthly gross salary of 2,788 EUR. Additional benefits include subsidized meals, partial public transport reimbursement, annual leave plus RTT days, teleworking after 6 months, flexible working hours, equipment access, training, and social security coverage.
Applicants should have a strong background in combinatorial optimization, evolutionary computation, computational intelligence, heuristic search, or related areas, or expertise in parallel/HPC computing combined with solid optimization knowledge. Basic French and good English are required.
To apply, submit your CV, motivation letter, and any supporting documents such as recommendation letters through the Inria jobs portal. The deadline is 2026-11-30.

What's required
Candidates should have a strong background in combinatorial optimization, evolutionary computation, computational intelligence, heuristic search, or related areas, or expertise in parallel and HPC computing combined with a solid understanding of combinatorial optimization. Prior HPC experience is an advantage for optimization/computational intelligence candidates, and candidates primarily specialized in HPC are also encouraged if they have relevant combinatorial optimization expertise. Basic French and good English are required.
How to apply
Apply through the Inria jobs portal and submit a resume, motivation letter, and any supporting documents such as recommendation letters. The posting also links to the Euraxess page for additional application access/details.
