About this position
This postdoctoral position at Rochester Institute of Technology centers on advanced power electronics and energy conversion systems, with a particular emphasis on high-power back-to-back converters and solid-state transformer technologies. The researcher will develop and integrate converter technology toward an integrated Solid-State Transformer architecture, contributing to both modelling and experimental implementation.
Working under the supervision of Dr. Liwei Zhou, the postdoctoral researcher will help build experimental platforms, develop control strategies, and test converter prototypes. The work includes model development, control algorithm design, hardware integration, and experimental characterization of high-power converter systems.
- Develop models and control algorithms for back-to-back power converters.
- Support integration of back-to-back converter and DAB stages into a Solid-State Transformer system.
- Design, implement, and test converter control approaches such as active front-end and rectifier control.
- Integrate power electronic hardware, sensors, filters, control interfaces, and protection systems.
- Carry out experimental characterization, troubleshooting, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
The project involves collaboration with graduate students, industry partners, and external engineering and manufacturing collaborators, offering a research environment that combines academic inquiry with applied development and prototype testing.
