Postdoctoral Researcher in Anthropology and Law of Maternal Rights at Roskilde University (Fully Funded) Roskilde University in Denmark

The Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University, Denmark, is inviting applications for a fully funded postdoctoral researcher position in anthropology and law as part of the European Research Council-funded project “Mapping and Conceptualising Maternal Rights during Pregnancy, Birth, and the Postpartum Period (MaMas).” The project, led by Associate Professor Céline Brassart Olsen, aims to develop the first legal framework of maternal rights during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, combining legal and anthropological approaches to uncover women's rights and experiences during matrescence.

The postdoc will join the interdisciplinary research group Crossroads of Care and Social Reproduction (CARE) and collaborate closely with legal researchers. The research involves qualitative methods such as interviews, ethnography, participant observation, and netnographies, focusing on women’s awareness and experience of rights in Denmark, France, and the United Kingdom. The position is research-only, with no teaching duties, and offers opportunities for international collaboration and academic development.

Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology, cultural studies, or a related social science, with advanced qualitative research skills, experience in fieldwork, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary work, particularly law and feminist theory. Proficiency in English and one of the languages of Denmark or France is required, as is the ability to travel for fieldwork. The position is fully funded for three years, starting September 1, 2026, with a competitive salary and research support. Application deadline is February 22, 2026.
