About this position
Postdoctoral opportunity in bacterial multicellular interactions and development at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Jerusalem, Israel.
The Sigal Ben-Yehuda Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate microbial cell biology, bacterial multicellularity, bacterial development, intercellular interactions, and phage-bacteria biology. The project will examine how bacteria interact with neighboring cells, form multicellular structures, communicate through bacterial nanotubes, and respond to bacteriophage infection. Research will also address developmental pathways such as sporulation.
The postdoctoral researcher will design and perform experiments using molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, and advanced imaging techniques. The lab offers close mentorship, a stimulating research environment, and access to state-of-the-art facilities. The work builds on pioneering research into bacterial nanotubes and collective behavior in prokaryotic life.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline. Strong interest in microbial systems, development, and cell biology is expected, together with motivation, independence, and intellectual curiosity. Experience in molecular genetics, microbiology, or microscopy is advantageous.
The position provides a monthly stipend of 8,000 NIS (approximately 2,600 USD) for 3–5 years. To apply, submit separate PDF files containing a motivation letter, a CV with publication list, and copies of original academic degrees. The application deadline is not specified.
