About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics and translational breast cancer within the Oncology-Pathology department in Solna, Sweden. The project is led by the research group of Professor Johan Hartman and focuses on clinical and translational breast cancer research with an emphasis on precision cancer medicine, diagnostics, tumor heterogeneity, and tumor-stromal interactions.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary environment of clinicians, bioinformaticians, computer scientists, and biologists, and will work with unique patient datasets to address important questions in breast cancer progression and treatment response. The research environment uses AI-assisted clinical and molecular pathology, genetic analysis, and population registry-based statistics, with strong collaboration across Karolinska Institutet, KTH, and the Science for Life Laboratory.

The main research tasks involve analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, and DNA methylation data, including somatic mutation and copy-number alteration calling, gene expression analysis, signature and pathway analysis, and multi-omics integration using machine-learning methods. The postdoc will also help develop and maintain computational pipelines for genomic and transcriptomic analysis, including datasets from single-cell and spatial omics technologies. There is also scope to contribute to large-scale clinical and registry-based analyses using biostatistical methods.

The role is suited to a highly motivated researcher with a strong bioinformatics background and a clear interest in data-driven biomedical research at the intersection of cancer biology, genomics, and computational science. Essential qualifications include a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, computer science, or a related quantitative field; strong skills in R/Python and Linux; prior sequencing-data analysis experience supported by publications; basic knowledge of molecular biology and/or cancer; and excellent English communication and documentation skills. Desirable experience includes biostatistics, clinical cohort analyses, oncology research, AI tools, spatial transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing, multi-omics integration, and use of resources such as TCGA, COSMIC, and dbSNP.

The position is a full-time temporary appointment for two years with the possibility of extension. The application must be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system and include a PhD certificate, a full CV, a publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. The deadline is 2026-09-22.

Applicants should have proficiency in R or Python and Linux command-line work, prior publication-supported experience analyzing sequencing data (DNA/RNA/methylation), basic knowledge of molecular biology and/or cancer, excellent written and verbal English, and strong data management and documentation skills. Experience with spatial transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing, multi-omics integration, computational pathology tools, biostatistics, clinical cohort analyses, oncology research, AI software, and genomic cancer databases such as TCGA, COSMIC, and dbSNP is considered advantageous.

How to apply

Submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system. Include the PhD certificate, complete CV, full publication list, and a one-page summary of current work in English or Swedish. Apply by 2026-09-22 23:59 (Europe/Stockholm).
