Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate-Resilient Landscape Planning and Ecosystem Services Leibniz University Hannover in Germany

Leibniz University Hannover is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate-Resilient Landscape Planning within the Institute of Environmental Planning and the Landscape Planning and Ecosystem Services group. The position is embedded in the EU Horizon Europe project SpongeWorks, which focuses on innovative nature-based solutions, sponge measures, and integrated landscape strategies to improve water retention, climate resilience, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

The role is well suited to researchers with interests in landscape planning, geography, sustainability science, environmental science, climate adaptation planning, participatory spatial planning, and Geodesign. The successful candidate will work with an established multi-method dataset from European case study regions and use quantitative, qualitative, and GIS-based approaches, including participatory mapping, surveys, stakeholder data, and spatial analyses.

This is a 75% TV-L E13 postdoctoral position with a fixed term until 31 August 2028 and the possibility of extension. The post offers opportunities to publish internationally, present at conferences, contribute to project coordination and consortium activities, and support mentoring of doctoral researchers. Teaching is not required, though it may be arranged if desired. Habilitation or an equivalent postdoctoral qualification is actively supported.

Applicants should have a completed PhD and a Master’s degree or equivalent in landscape planning, geography, sustainability science, ecosystem services, climate adaptation, environmental sciences, or a related field. Strong academic performance, experience with empirical research methods, and excellent English communication skills are expected. Experience with GIS is highly desirable, and applicants are encouraged to highlight quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method expertise.
