About this position
The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in developmental biology. The successful candidate will integrate single-cell and spatial experimental approaches to investigate plant organ development, cell fate switches, and the genetic basis of morphological diversity.
The researcher will work closely with Director Miltos Tsiantis and members of his Department of Comparative Development and Genetics, contributing to research on organ shape development and diversity, including activities connected with the ERC Advanced Grant project CLONAL. Responsibilities include designing, conducting, and analysing experiments and generating high-throughput sequencing data using single-cell and related approaches.
Applicants must have a PhD in biology or bioinformatics awarded in 2024 or later, together with strong expertise in molecular biology, single-cell methods, and next-generation sequencing data analysis. Experience with CRISPR-based genetic validation is advantageous. Proficiency in Python or R, familiarity with Linux and shell scripting, and experience with genomic tools and datasets are expected. Excellent English communication, reproducible research practices, teamwork, collaboration, and strong publication records are also required.
The appointment is initially for two years, with excellent possibilities for extension, under German regulations for scientific training.
