About this position
Karolinska Institutet is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to develop DNA nanostructures for cell-specific targeting and therapeutic delivery in Solna, Sweden. The position is based in a SciLifeLab research group working at the interface of DNA nanotechnology, cell biology, molecular biology and high-throughput sequencing.
The researcher will design, assemble and purify self-assembled DNA nanostructures and libraries; perform cellular uptake and selection experiments in mammalian cancer cell lines and complex models; use flow cytometry and confocal microscopy to quantify and localize internalized structures; investigate uptake routes and endosomal escape; functionalize nanostructures with targeting groups and nucleic-acid payloads; and evaluate gene-silencing activity in cells. The project also involves analysis of nanopore and Illumina sequencing data, conference presentations, manuscript preparation and student supervision.
Applicants must hold a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, nanotechnology or a related field, with the degree completed by the employment decision. Required experience includes mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays, confocal microscopy and/or flow cytometry, nucleic-acid methods, independent experimental work and excellent English. Experience with gene silencing, intracellular trafficking, DNA nanotechnology, cancer or three-dimensional cell models, sequencing and Python or R is advantageous.
The role is a temporary, full-time position with monthly salary under Karolinska Institutet's collective agreements. Apply through Varbi by 25 November 2026 with a PhD certificate, complete résumé, publication list and a one-page summary of current work.

Applicants should hold a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, nanotechnology or a related field; have documented mammalian cell culture and cell-based assay experience demonstrated through international peer-reviewed publications; hands-on experience with confocal microscopy and/or flow cytometry, including sample preparation, acquisition and quantitative analysis; experience with nucleic acids and molecular biology techniques such as PCR, enzymatic DNA modification and gel electrophoresis; the ability to plan, perform, report and rigorously document experiments independently; and very good spoken and written English. Meritorious experience includes gene silencing, endocytosis or intracellular trafficking, DNA nanotechnology, oligonucleotide design, cancer or primary cells, three-dimensional cell models, high-throughput sequencing, Python or R, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
