About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher within the African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR) in Benguerir, Morocco.
The interdisciplinary research program examines the links between climate change, urbanization, resource systems, and territorial performance, with emphasis on Morocco, Africa, and semi-arid to arid regions. The work sits at the intersection of Earth Observation, geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence, climate science, and sustainability science.
The researcher will develop predictive, decision-oriented, and operational frameworks for climate-resilient and sustainable territories. Research may involve integrating multi-source satellite data with machine learning and spatial modeling; studying climate–water–energy–agriculture interactions; and assessing water scarcity, urban heat stress, air quality, and territorial resilience.
Additional research directions include land-use and land-cover change and its effects on surface climate, ecosystem services, and socio-economic systems. The project also covers urban and territorial sustainability indicators, observatories, policy and planning decision-support tools, energy demand and territorial energy metabolism, and urban and peri-urban agriculture as climate-resilient solutions.
ARC_AIR brings together researchers, engineers, and students working on atmospheric science, air quality, climate change, environmental challenges, capacity building, and technology transfer. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct independent and collaborative research, contribute to international projects and proposals, support graduate-student supervision, and engage with researchers, institutions, and stakeholders in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
