About this position
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is seeking a fully funded postdoctoral researcher in electronic structure theory, with applications to warm dense matter (WDM), at the Fritz Haber Research Center on the Edmond J. Safra Campus in Jerusalem, Israel.
The project develops and applies temperature-dependent approximations for electron–electron interactions within density-functional theory (DFT). Warm dense matter lies at the interface of condensed matter physics and plasma physics. The research will also connect with experimental partners, including the Helmholtz International Beamline for Extreme Fields at the European XFEL, to benchmark theoretical methods using realistic X-ray scattering experiments.
The postdoctoral researcher will work under the joint supervision of Dr. Eli Kraisler at the Fritz Haber Research Center and Dr. Attila Cangi at the Center of Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany. Research topics include electronic structure theory, computational physics, quantum mechanics, many-electron theory, materials physics, and scientific software development.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline. Experience in theory development or scientific software development, strong motivation for collaborative research, and excellent communication skills are required. Knowledge of many-electron theory, DFT, or warm dense matter and a strong publication record are advantageous.
The position is fully funded with a monthly salary of 2,250 USD and a flexible start date. Applicants should submit a motivation letter, CV including a publication list, and copies of their original academic degrees. No application deadline is specified.
