About this position
The University of Vaasa, located in Finland, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Finance or Accounting for a fixed term of three years, starting January 2027 or as agreed. The position is based in the School of Accounting and Finance, one of Finland’s largest and most internationally recognized educational units in its field. The School comprises four disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Business Law, and Economics, and is renowned for high-quality research and publications in leading journals.
The postdoctoral role is research-oriented and includes scientific research, teaching, thesis supervision, and administrative tasks related to the editorial secretariat of the Multinational Finance Journal. The research profile is connected to either the Finance and Financial Accounting research group or the Auditing and Control in Accounting research group. Teaching responsibilities support both the Bachelor’s Program in Accounting and Finance and the EFMD-accredited Master’s Degree Programme in Finance or the Master’s Degree Programme in Accounting and Auditing.
Research focus areas at the School include Financial Markets, Instruments, and Institutions; Financial Analysis of Firm Policies and Outcomes; Governance and Compliance; Responsibility and Sustainability; and Risk Measurement and Management. The position may include additional tasks as agreed. Annual working time is 1612 hours, following the Finnish university collective agreement, with detailed tasks specified in the Annual Work Plan.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and demonstrate independent scientific research ability and teaching skills. Essential skills include strong analytical, writing, and communication abilities, as well as diligence and organizational skills for administrative duties. A proven research track record with publications in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the School’s focus areas is expected. Experience in obtaining external research funding and international research mobility are considered additional merits. Teaching merits, including pedagogical training, will be evaluated, and applicants may be invited to give a teaching demonstration.
The University of Vaasa offers a vibrant international community of 7000 students and 650 staff, with state-of-the-art research laboratories and teaching facilities at its maritime campus. The university’s three-track career model provides flexibility and growth opportunities, including tenure track, research/project-focused, and teaching-oriented tracks. Employee well-being is prioritized, with comprehensive occupational health services, sports and cultural benefits, flexible working hours, remote work options, and a versatile reward system.
Salary is based on the Finnish University Salary System (YPJ), demand level 5, approximately 3600-4000 euros/month depending on experience and performance. Employees are automatically enrolled in a pension scheme, with the majority of contributions paid by the employer. The employment is subject to a probationary period.
