About this position
This postdoctoral project is based in the Virus Molecular Biology group at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Gdańsk. The research focuses on a newly observed, glioblastoma-specific localization pattern of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) IE1 protein and its relationship to viral chromosome binding in glioblastoma cells.
The successful candidate will join a project that aims to uncover the mechanism behind this unusual nuclear localization pattern and to identify the domain of IE1 responsible for chromosomal binding. A central goal is to determine what drives this localization in glioblastoma cells and how it may relate to HCMV biology in this disease context.
The work combines molecular virology, cell biology, and genome-level analysis. The researcher will create and validate stable gene knockout cell lines using lentiviral CRISPR/Cas9 vectors, infect cells with HCMV, and analyze IE1 localization by immunofluorescence and viral genome localization by FISH. The project also includes studies of the viral lytic cycle, latency establishment, and reactivation from latency.
The position is embedded in a research team with strong mentoring, a collaborative atmosphere, and a well-equipped laboratory devoted fully to scientific work.
