About this position
This postdoctoral project examines human-AI decision-making in healthcare, with a particular focus on how uncertainty is understood and acted on when human judgement meets AI-generated assessments. The project asks how clinicians, patients, and epidemiologists interpret uncertainty, and how those interpretations shape decisions in healthcare settings.
The work is based at the Division of Systems and Control in the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University, a large research and teaching environment with broad expertise in machine learning, optimization, control theory, and applied mathematics. The division applies these methods across areas including medicine, biomedical systems, neuroscience, and safety and security, and it has an extensive international network.
The project is part of a joint WASP/WASP-HS initiative involving researchers at Uppsala University and Linköping University. It combines perspectives from artificial intelligence and the humanities/social sciences to study uncertainty both as a statistical phenomenon and as a social one. The postdoc will contribute to a study design that uses surveys, interviews, and phenomenological methods to explore decision-making in healthcare today and the role of AI in changing it.
The position is based in Uppsala and includes a mix of research and limited departmental duties within a collaborative academic environment.
