About this position
The Sugiyama-Badr Laboratory in the Department of Chemical Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on hydrogen production systems and related infrastructure. The research contributes to decarbonizing energy systems and the chemical industry through process modeling, design, and optimization.
The researcher will investigate hydrogen production processes and supply chains, develop and apply system-level models, and evaluate low-carbon scenarios for energy and chemical production. The project integrates technical, economic, environmental, and safety considerations into process design and decision-making.
The role is suited to a researcher with expertise in process systems engineering, process simulation and design, and optimization-based analysis. The laboratory also welcomes complementary experience in life cycle assessment, risk or hazard assessment, machine learning, large-scale language models, and data-driven modeling. The successful researcher will work in an interdisciplinary chemical engineering environment focused on practical pathways toward lower-carbon industrial and energy systems.
