About this position
WorkDem is a postdoctoral project on workplace democracy and its renewal in the face of major transitions. The position is based at Université de Bordeaux and focuses on how democracy at work can be rethought as climate, technological, and demographic changes reshape social dialogue and the organisation of labour.
The project examines the relationship between workplace democracy and political democracy, using developments in the philosophy of work and the philosophy of democracy as its conceptual foundation. The postdoctoral researcher will help build an analytical framework for interrogating how different practical knowledge fields understand democracy in relation to work, including law, management sciences, ergonomics, work psychology, and engineering.
Research activities include contributing to an interdisciplinary network on workplace democracy, conducting a literature review, mapping conceptions of workplace democracy, taking part in interviews with research participants, and working with the team on qualitative and quantitative analysis in France. The role also contributes to comparative analysis across different national regimes of workplace democracy and to the preparation of research articles and reports.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative research environment and help disseminate results in ways that reach diverse socio-economic and cultural groups as well as a broad range of stakeholders. The project also involves contributing to future research proposals with the team.
The position is centered on understanding and comparing models of democracy at work across countries, with a strong interdisciplinary and comparative focus.
