About this position

Forschungszentrum Jülich is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science – Neutron Analytics for Energy Research (JCNS-3). The project addresses the dynamic and structural properties of energy materials and nanostructured interfaces using neutron and X-ray reflectometry alongside complementary experimental techniques and theoretical simulations.

The research will investigate the swelling behaviour of Nafion films in fuel cells, grazing-incidence processes in anode-free sodium-based batteries, and the hydration behaviour of organic ligand layers on metal oxide surfaces. Reflectometry will contribute to instruments planned for the High Brilliance neutron Source (HBS-I) at Forschungszentrum Jülich and to the HiCANS platform at ESS Bilbao.

The researcher will characterize energy materials and model systems, synthesize and perform physicochemical studies of materials, participate in experiments at neutron sources, and help design and construct sample environments. The role also includes supervising students, presenting findings at conferences, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and establishing cooperation projects with other institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the HiCANS platform.

This is an experimental research environment combining neutron science, X-ray methods, energy materials, interface science and instrument development within JCNS-3.
