About this position
The HEADS Lab at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Basel, invites applications for a fixed-term postdoctoral researcher position (80% FTE, 4 years) starting 1st June 2026 or later. The lab’s research centers on the relationship between physical activity and cognitive performance across development, with possible research topics including embodied learning, physical activity and sport in developmental disorders, and the cognitive effects of physical activity and sports in school settings.
Our interdisciplinary group employs a methodological approach that combines behavioral measures with neurophysiological processes, utilizing advanced techniques such as electro-encephalography (EEG), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and eye tracking. The successful candidate will conduct independent research within these thematic areas, set up experimental configurations for neurophysiological measurement, publish in international peer-reviewed journals, participate in conferences, implement science communication measures, acquire third-party funding, supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, and contribute to teaching and academic self-governance.
Applicants must hold a completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) and a PhD in sport science, psychology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include experience with EEG, fNIRS, and/or eye tracking, advanced data processing and analysis skills, experience administering cognitive tests, a record of relevant scientific publications, and proficiency in statistical data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, Jamovi). Candidates should demonstrate a high level of self-motivation, independence, and structured work habits, as well as very good English and at least basic German (A2 level). Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is required or must be acquired.
The University of Basel offers a positive working atmosphere within an interdisciplinary team, opportunities for independent academic development (with the goal of habilitation), access to well-equipped laboratories, and participation in internal and external training programs. Additional benefits include discounts for catering, sports facilities, and family services.
Applications must be submitted online in PDF format via the University of Basel recruiting portal by 17 February 2026. Please indicate your possible starting date.
