About this position

ETH Zürich is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantitative Socio-Spatial Analysis within the Spatial Development and Urban Policy (SPUR) research group at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development.

The position focuses on quantitative socio-spatial analysis and the development of methods, tools, and platforms for studying and monitoring urban phenomena such as segregation, gentrification, displacement, housing affordability, and poverty, with a particular focus on Switzerland. The role combines spatial planning, urban studies, social science, and data science, and includes work on spatial registry data, public-facing data platforms, maps, indices, and applied research with public authorities.

The successful candidate will collaborate across disciplines, contribute to research projects, support teaching and public communication, and help expand the SPUR group’s applied socio-spatial research portfolio. The post is intended to support longer-term development of a sub-unit on applied socio-spatial analysis.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD degree or be near completion in spatial or urban analytics, quantitative or computational social science, geography, public economics, or a related field. Strong skills in data science, spatial analytics, and spatial data visualization are required, along with experience handling large-scale registry datasets. Knowledge of Swiss spatial planning and housing policy is important. Very good English and German are required; French is an asset.

Funding and contract: this is a postdoctoral researcher position initially for 2 years, with the possibility of extension up to 6 years. No stipend amount is stated.

Application deadline: 7 June 2026. Applicants must apply online via ETH Zürich’s portal and submit a letter of interest, CV, and academic transcripts. Email applications are not accepted.
