About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Division of Analysis and Probability, in Gothenburg, Sweden. The department brings together research in mathematics and related fields in an international, collaborative environment involving the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers.
The project focuses on fundamental and applied problems in quantum information theory, with the specific direction shaped jointly with the successful candidate. Possible research areas include quantum Shannon theory, capacities of quantum channels, entropic inequalities, resource theories, entanglement, Bell nonlocality, and operator-algebraic approaches to quantum information.
A major application area is mathematically rigorous quantum communication security. The researcher may work on security proofs and key-rate bounds for continuous-variable quantum key distribution and device-independent quantum key distribution in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. The work draws on functional analysis, entropy theory and operator algebras, including von Neumann algebras and commuting-operator models.
The position is funded through a WACQT grant to Assistant Professor Mizanur Rahaman, whose research group provides scope for independent research and collaboration with national and international partners. The postdoc may also have opportunities to supervise master's or PhD students and to contribute to undergraduate or master's teaching.
Applicants join a supportive and stimulating mathematical sciences department connected to Sweden's national quantum-technology research environment. The role combines rigorous mathematical foundations with questions relevant to practical quantum communication.

What's required
A doctoral degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, or an equivalent foreign degree must be obtained no later than the employment decision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required, along with excellent research potential. Experience in quantum information theory or related areas of mathematics is advantageous. A doctorate obtained within the three years before the application deadline is highly meritorious, subject to documented reductions for circumstances such as parental or sick leave. Applicants must be able to meet the physical-presence requirement and present a valid residence permit by the start date.
How to apply
Apply through the application form using the button at the bottom of the vacancy page. Submit English-language PDF files including a CV with a complete publication list and a personal letter covering your background, previous research and outcomes, and future goals and research focus. Each file must be no larger than 40 MB; ZIP files and applications sent by email are not accepted.
