About this position
The Stafstrom Lab in the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in sensory ecology, evolution, and animal behavior.
The lab investigates the sensory ecology of net-casting spiders to understand how sensory systems evolve and how they are connected to predatory behavior. This unusual study system supports research across both proximate and ultimate mechanisms of behavior, with opportunities to explore neurophysiology, sensor morphology, histology, animal behavior, biomechanics, and metabolics.
The postdoctoral researcher will lead the development and data collection of projects aligned with their interests and the laboratory’s broader research program. The role also includes participation in field collections and fieldwork, student mentorship, and communication of findings through scientific publications and conference presentations.
The Stafstrom Lab emphasizes professional development and provides opportunities to build experience in teaching, mentorship, and outreach within a large biology department spanning ecology, evolution, microbiology, developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, and genomics.
