About this position
The Singapore-ETH Centre is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to lead research on technology-enabled home rehabilitation after stroke within the Future Health Technologies Programme. The project addresses the need for scalable rehabilitation that extends beyond therapist-led clinical care and supports stroke survivors in their homes.
The research focuses on the RELab tenoexo, a soft robotic hand exoskeleton designed to enhance upper-limb rehabilitation in clinical therapy and provide additional task-oriented training at home. The postdoctoral researcher will lead further development of the exoskeleton system, including design improvements, software and gamification, intention-detection approaches for control, interfaces with a companion digital application, and data analysis.
The project will integrate the exoskeleton with an AI-based digital health intervention: an LLM-powered conversational agent delivered through a mobile app. The app will support daily interaction, remote monitoring, telerehabilitation, and research data collection. The team will also investigate how neuromodulation may be combined with exoskeleton assistance to promote recovery after stroke.
The researcher will coordinate a multi-arm, six-week proof-of-value clinical trial evaluating clinic-to-home rehabilitation. Responsibilities include planning technical developments and user testing, coordinating clinical evaluation, preparing study protocols and ethics submissions, overseeing trial governance and regulatory compliance, and collaborating with clinical and community partners. The role also involves mentoring two PhD students and one engineer, supporting the principal investigators, and disseminating findings through conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
The work is conducted in an interdisciplinary and international environment at the Singapore-ETH Centre, in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and Stroke Support Station. The position combines biomedical engineering, soft robotics, digital health, clinical research, and neurorehabilitation.
