About this position
Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral position on the epistemology of moral experiences in technology within the Faculty of Technology, Policy & Management.
The postdoctoral researcher will work on the Techno-Moral Experience and the Foundations of Design for Values (TechnoMoralXP) project. The research develops a moral epistemology for Design for Values, examining how emotional and perceptual encounters with morally significant situations can support justified moral judgement and inform technology design.
As the WP1 postdoc, the researcher will develop a conceptualisation of techno-moral experiences, distinguish them from neighbouring concepts, analyse their epistemic roles and limitations in justifying design decisions, and connect the philosophical findings with a practical design toolkit developed by a second postdoc. The role sits at the intersection of philosophy, moral epistemology, ethics of technology, philosophy of emotion, and value-sensitive design.
Applicants should have a completed or nearly completed PhD in philosophy or a closely related field, with relevant expertise in metaethics, moral epistemology, ethics, or philosophy of emotion. A strong research and writing record, excellent English, interest in technology ethics or Design for Values, and the ability to work across philosophy and design are expected. Up to 10% of the role involves educational activities.
The position is a temporary three-year appointment for 36–40 hours per week, with a salary of €3,706–€5,760 under the Dutch Universities collective agreement, plus pension, leave, training, flexible working, and other benefits.
Apply online by 15 November 2026 with a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and PhD certificate and transcript or expected-completion statement. Interviews are planned online for 2–3 December and 10–11 December 2026.
