About this position
The Park lab at the University of California, Los Angeles is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to advance research at the interface of metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and immunometabolism. The position centers on engineering microbial hosts for sustainable biomanufacturing, investigating metabolic dysregulation in human diseases, and developing new metabolomics and fluxomics technologies.
The successful scholar will lead projects that combine computational and experimental approaches to construct novel strains and pathways, probe regulatory mechanisms linked to health and disease, and generate integrative omics insights. The work is described as cutting-edge and highly interdisciplinary, with a strong emphasis on hypothesis-driven research and collaboration across molecular, analytical, and computational methods.
The lab environment highlights expertise in microbial engineering, metabolic analysis, and multi-omics, and the postdoctoral researcher will contribute directly to ongoing efforts in sustainable biomanufacturing and disease-related metabolism research.

What's required
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, or a closely related discipline, completed or near completion at the time of application. Required experience includes molecular biology techniques, fermentation, culturing, and physiological characterization, as well as hands-on work with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, or NMR. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of scientific productivity and excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred qualifications include experience with metabolic flux analysis (MFA), kinetic modeling, or constraint-based genome-scale modeling (COBRA), a strong mathematical background in differential equations, linear algebra, and optimization, background in thermodynamics and reaction kinetics, experience engineering non-conventional host organisms such as Yarrowia lipolytica, and experience with bioinformatics, transcriptomics (RNA-seq), or metabolomics data analysis pipelines.
