About this position

IDEA Bio at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to build computational infrastructure for the LEARN team. The role sits within a collaborative environment focused on synthetic biology and advanced biomanufacturing, where the fellow will develop open-source tools and reproducible workflows that turn complex biological datasets into actionable insight.

The project brings together fermentation, proteomics, metabolomics and 13C-labelling data with genome-scale metabolic reconstruction, curation, quality control, pathway visualisation and constraint-based modelling. The fellow will work alongside systems biologists, fermentation scientists and analytical chemists to support data-driven bioprocess optimisation and rational strain design. The position combines software development with research translation, enabling robust analytical capability for both academic and industry-facing biomanufacturing applications.

This is a research-focused appointment based at UQ’s St Lucia Campus, with opportunities to contribute to publications, open-source software and collaborative research activities. The successful candidate will also support supervision and researcher development for Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, and help build computational tools that improve phenotypic characterisation, reporting and multidisciplinary research delivery.

The role is based in a well-resourced university research environment with strong interdisciplinary collaboration, access to facilities and support for research and professional development.

Funding details
