About this position
Tufts University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to support research at the Center for Applied Brain and Cognitive Sciences (CABCS) in Medford, Massachusetts. CABCS is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research initiative focused on measuring, predicting, and enhancing human cognitive capabilities, performance, and human-system interactions in complex, high-stakes, real-world environments, including military contexts.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the Center’s data analysis and quantitative modeling efforts. The work will involve examining behavioral, cognitive, and physiological data using frequentist and Bayesian methods, mixed-effects and multilevel models, regression frameworks, data visualization, statistical diagnostics, model validation, and interpretation. The scholar will conduct data-driven research under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, particularly in cognitive and applied psychology domains.
Responsibilities include developing and documenting reproducible analytical code and workflows in R and Python, conducting studies involving cognitive and physiological modalities, and preparing analyses, papers, reports, presentations, demonstrations, and peer-reviewed publications. The role also supports research-project management, laboratory resources and equipment, collaborations with internal and external researchers, and representation of CABCS at professional meetings.
The scholar will help mentor junior researchers and students in rigorous data-preprocessing and analysis practices, including power analysis, data imputation, bootstrapping and non-parametric techniques, meta-analysis, and statistical methodology. The research environment emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration across applied cognitive science, statistics, human performance, psychometrics, and computational data analysis.

What's required
Applicants should have a recently completed or soon-to-be-completed PhD in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Statistics, or a related field. Required qualifications include strong foundational expertise in regression, mixed or multilevel models, PCA or factor analysis, non-parametric methods, simulation-based inference, and high proficiency in R and/or Python for analysis, visualization, and diagnostics. Applicants should have demonstrated experience or foundational knowledge of Bayesian modeling, 1–2 years of experience with meta-analysis and systematic reviews, and experience with power analysis, effect-size estimation, assumption testing, and data imputation. Excellent analytical, organizational, teamwork, written communication, and verbal communication skills are required, along with a strong publication or presentation record involving statistical analysis of cognitive or behavioral data. Preferred qualifications include experience with structural equation modeling, machine learning, psychometric network analysis, military-focused or human-performance research, AR/VR behavioral experiments, UX research, psychometric modeling, measurement invariance, and teaching or mentoring statistics and research methods using R or Python. A cover letter is required.
