About this position
Stanford University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to join the EMPOWER project within the Community-Oriented Networks for Education, Care, and Teaching Science Education (CONNECT SciEd) lab, led by Dr. Stina Krist in the Graduate School of Education.
EMPOWER—Enacting Materials to Promote OWnership, Engagement, and Relevance—is an NSF- and NIH-funded, multi-site project that brings together education researchers, K–12 science teachers, research scientists, and community-based organizations. The Stanford site focuses on developing reciprocal community partnerships that support justice-centered science teaching. Co-design teams work to adapt science curriculum materials so they are more justice-oriented and connected to communities.
The postdoctoral scholar will be a core member of the research team and will study teacher, student, and professional-learning facilitator development through design-based research. Work may include co-leading professional-learning design, collecting and analyzing classroom observations, interviews, surveys, student work, and video recordings, and building relationships with participating teachers and school districts. The scholar will also contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, mentor graduate research assistants, support grant reporting and proposals, and assist with project management, IRB protocols, and data security.
Depending on experience and interests, up to 30% of the role may involve Stanford Graduate School of Education’s Professional Learning Extension (PLEX). This can include designing workshops or courses, facilitating professional learning for teachers and district leaders, developing custom programs with partner districts, and studying the impact of professional learning as part of an independent research agenda.
The position offers an opportunity to work across science education, teacher learning, community-engaged research, curriculum design, equity-focused education, and research-practice partnerships in collaboration with schools, educators, community organizations, and interdisciplinary researchers.
