About this position
Postdoctoral Scholar position in Technology and International Security at the University of California, San Diego’s Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC).
This fellowship brings together IGCC, the UC Office of the President, and UC-managed National Laboratories, including the Center for Global Security Research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the National Security and International Studies Office at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The programme is designed for postdoctoral researchers whose work examines how emerging and established technologies shape international security, national security, and the wider global security environment.
The research themes named in the advert include nuclear technology, autonomous weapons, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, cyber technology, hypersonic vehicles, additive manufacturing, stealth, precision guidance, and related areas. The fellowship is aimed at scholars producing new theoretical and empirical insights into technology’s role in conflict, competition, and security policy. Scholars are expected to devote most of their time to research and to complete a substantial publication such as a book, monograph, or other major scholarly output during the fellowship.
The programme is based in Washington, D.C., with all scholars in residence at the University of California Washington, D.C. Center for the duration of the award. Fellows are expected to take part in weekly seminars, research colloquia, and occasional travel, creating a research-intensive environment connected to UC San Diego and national security institutions.
The postdoctoral cohort may include up to six scholars, offering a larger interdisciplinary environment for exchange across social sciences, humanities, physical sciences, engineering, computer science, and other technical fields.
