About this position
RIKEN is recruiting for a fixed-term research/technical position in the Terahertz and Infrared Quantum Photonics Research Team at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics in Wako, Saitama, Japan. The post is centered on quantum photonics, terahertz and infrared light sources, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, quantum sensing, and quantum spectroscopy, with a strong emphasis on developing novel spectroscopic and imaging methods to study the quantum states of materials and light-energy conversion processes.
Open job types include Researcher, Special Researcher, Technical Staff I, and Technical Staff II. The role is contract-based and not tenure-track. Researchers and Special Researchers are PhD-level positions; Technical Staff roles require at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent ability with relevant specialized skills. The institute notes that the exact job type will be determined based on the applicant’s abilities and aptitude.
Funding is provided through a salary system starting at 2 million yen per year, with additional allowances such as commuting and housing allowance, plus social insurance. The contract is initially for one year and may be renewed depending on performance and project continuation, up to the end of the JSPS-funded project in March 2031. The work location is on-site in Wako, Saitama, and the posting states that telecommuting is generally not available for this role.
Applications are accepted from May 12, 2026 to May 12, 2027, and the institute may close the search earlier if a suitable candidate is found. Applicants should submit the required electronic documents, including a resume and list of achievements, via the official recruitment page.
