Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) is recruiting a researcher / postdoctoral-equivalent fixed-term position in the Bio Research Group in Kyoto, Japan. The project focuses on bio-manufacturing of fibers, including the exploration and enhancement of enzymes that decompose polymer materials such as synthetic fibers, and the production of high-value-added green chemicals from the resulting decomposition products using microorganisms.
This opportunity is closely connected to bioprocess engineering, applied microbiology, molecular biology, systems genomics, applied biochemistry, and synthetic biology. The group is involved in national projects such as the NEDO Bio-Manufacturing Revolution Promotion Project and collaborates with companies on biofuels and green chemicals from unused biomass resources.
Eligibility: a master's degree or higher in a relevant field is required, and a doctoral degree is preferred. The institute seeks candidates with research experience in synthetic biology or culture engineering, especially protein enhancement, metabolic engineering, omics analysis, genome modification, microorganism culture, reactions, and useful substance production using jar fermenters. Applicants should be able to independently design industrial smart cells and work persistently toward research goals.
Funding: annual salary contract employee, with annual income around ¥4.5 million to ¥6.4 million depending on experience and achievements. Bonus and commuting allowance are available. The position is fixed-term and renewable annually.
